Research Methodology

The Vulnerability Mapping Survey was entirely a work of primary research that involved visiting 900 families door-to-door and asking them for information that was to be filled in the forms. It led to a collection of data for over 4012 individuals residing in those areas. The data was collected on printed forms provided by Jagran Kalyan Bharti, and was later entered into excel spreadsheets for ease of access. Every form filled was either signed or a thumb impression of the individual under whose name the form was being filled.

Community Engagement

As soon as we reached a particular neighbourhood, referred to as ‘Basti’ in vernacular, the objective of the research was explained to the residents of the community, and their questions, if any, were addressed. This introduction was the most important part of the survey as it built a sort of trust amongst them, which eventually made it easier for them to share personal information with us.
